Our story is pretty amazing.
I started going to culinary school part-time a few years ago to relieve stress from a highly violent job. At that time I had my sights set on a Culinary Arts Certificate so that I might be able to get out of this position that was eating me alive. I had been a food blogger for many years prior to that so I thought this would be the perfect fit.
While I enjoyed going to culinary school, I did start to study Culinary Nutrition around the same time. That completely LIT A FIRE in me and I abandoned the CA Certificate. I graduated as a Culinary Nutrition Expert with Honours in 2018 and started doing food prep for others. They always wanted the snacks that I had to offer. Before I knew it people were contacting me asking me to fill their freezer with healthy snacks before they had babies, to help with their meal prep and to help them maintain their healthy lifestyle. I started making the Mocha MCT Bar for a local gym. And it just snowballed from there.
I contacted an amazing branding company and my business was born. Even though I was working on branding I really didn’t know how I was going to market my bars. There are a million bars out there I get it. But these were different.
Sadly, in 2018 my dad was involved in a serious car crash that left him with a significant brain injury. By the grace of God he survived. I remember talking to him on the phone about things that he could eat to help with optimum brain health and help him heal. When I hung up the phone the answer came to me. I was going to offer customers snacks that had a PURPOSE. That’s how the Empower-MINT Bar was born. It’s a minty bar that is full of REAL food ingredients that are excellent brain food.
I set my sights on advocating to people that food can have therapeutic benefits for the body. And I’ve continued to advocate for that as well as to advocate to retailers that foods that have expiry dates are better for Canadians. Our bars belong in the fridge and only last for 90 days. I want folks to know that real food expires and should expire.
